Why people look for a FetchV alternative

FetchV is rated 4.9 out of 5 from 11.1K ratings by 800,000 users, and its reviews are overwhelmingly positive. The reasons to look elsewhere are specific to certain videos.

Encrypted and DASH videos are out of scope

FetchV's listing states that “It does not support encrypted videos” and that it “may add support for 'MPEG-DASH' in the future” (Chrome Web Store listing). Some video hosts serve DASH manifests, or HLS protected with standard AES-128; on those, FetchV's own description says it will not help. The listing's last update is dated 24 September 2025.

Recording takes as long as the video

When FetchV cannot fetch a stream directly, its recording modes capture the playback. A Thai reviewer notes “ต้องดูให้จบเรื่อง มันนานมาก” (you have to watch it to the end, it takes a very long time) (Chrome Web Store, Thai reviews, 2026). Vidora also has a recording fallback, but for HLS and DASH it downloads the stream itself, so the time depends on your connection rather than on the length of the video.

Slow or stalled downloads on some sites

“WERKT REDELIJK VERTRAAGD VAAK DE DOWNLOAD OF STOPT MET DOWNLOADEN” (it works reasonably, but often slows down or stops downloading), writes a Dutch reviewer (Chrome Web Store, Dutch reviews, 4 July 2025). With Vidora you can pause a download for up to 30 minutes, and if a source cuts out partway, you can keep the part already downloaded.

Where FetchV is still the better choice

• Rating and track previews. Reviewers single out its preview of each detected file: “The purple play button in front of each downloadable file helps” (Rebecca Schultz, Chrome Web Store, 22 September 2026).
• Lightweight. The package weighs 473 KiB and downloads with several threads at once.
• Two recording modes. Screen-and-sound recording plus player-buffer capture give it two ways to save a video it cannot fetch. Vidora has one: recording the playback.
• Unlimited and free. A Japanese reviewer praises exactly that: “ダウンロード数に無制限なのが最高です” (unlimited downloads is the best part) (Chrome Web Store, Japanese reviews, 2026).
• Edge. FetchV supports Edge and other Chromium browsers from version 92.

How Vidora handles DASH and AES-128 HLS

Vidora detects the stream the page plays, whether it is an HLS playlist (.m3u8), a DASH manifest (.mpd) or a direct MP4, and lists it in the popup, with ads ranked lower.

• DASH: audio and video tracks are downloaded and merged into one MP4. Quality is automatic, the best track up to 1080p; there is no quality menu for generic DASH. DASH made of two separate WebM tracks is not supported.
• HLS with standard AES-128: Vidora decrypts the segments inside Chrome and saves a regular MP4.
• Not supported: SAMPLE-AES, proprietary key formats and DRM. Vidora shows a clear message instead of saving a file that will not play.
• Separate audio: merged into the same file; a silent result is refused rather than delivered.
• Large files: written straight to disk as they download, so multi-gigabyte videos are not limited by memory.
